Poppage results. Warning: scan heavy and a little word heavy.

First off, big thanks to Mike (mknez) for putting on the recent National group sub. It was like Christmas opening up my package of newly slabbed cards. All in all, I was pretty happy with the results of the sub. Of course there were cards I thought should have gotten higher grades but that is always the case I suppose. It is hard to be unbiased looking at your cards. This was the first time I sent away more than 15 cards (my only other subs were the ones from my membership about a year ago. Anyway here are my results. Thanks in advance for looking, if you don't want to read and just want to look at the scans I understandimage

I don't collect a lot of baseball. I have had this McCovey in my collection for a long time. I bought it as a teenager from one of those Teletrade (I think that's what it was called) phone auctions in the early 90's. It was advertised as NM. Apparently they were good graders back then. The Lis and Lynn RC are from a pack I ripped a while back. The 75 minis surprised me, I expected the Lis to be the 8 and the Lynn to be the 9. The Lis is now a pop 13 with none higher.

Next up, some football! I am a big 49er fan and I love the 86 set in particular the Rice RC. I bought all of these off of eBay at one point or another with hopes of pulling a self-submitted 9. I would have been happy with 8's with any of them. The 6 is an awesome card and I think it would have graded at least an 8 and had a chance at an 8.5 or 9 without the surface issue. It was worth a shot at subbing with the possible upside. Man, PSA is tough on this card. If one of those 7.5's could have gotten the .5 bump to an 8 I would have been happy, but leaving the sub with only one 8 out of the group is a little disappointing.

My first 10 of the sub. A 9 would have been a money loser on the Sanders so I was all in for that 10! Always nice to have a HOF RC in 10. 8's on the Young RCs seemed right to me. Was wishing for something higher but can't argue with what I got.

Some modern cards. The Morris Auto RC was pack pulled from a pack out of my LCS. Luck is the only modern FB player I collect. I have a PSA 10 collection of Luck going. I originally bought both of these in the same lot off of eBay. They looked sharp and I thought they had a chance at 10's so I pulled the trigger because at the time I was trying to complete a Topps Chrome refractor rainbow for Luck and needed the 2012 Orange refractor. Literally a week before this sub popped I bought a PSA 10 Orange refractor from PWCC. I will keep this one and put the other one up for sale.

Now we get to my favorite sport, hoops. Starting off with a couple of 57's. I have thought about starting this set over the years but just haven't had the focus. I subbed a bunch of 1961's. It was a little rough, probably the toughest group for my sub. The Gambee 6 is about right, was hoping for a 7, but can't argue with the 6. The Guerin IA 6.5 was hurt by the soft corner, but with that centering I was hoping to get the bump to a 7.

Not pictured are three cards from 1961 Fleer: Paul Arizin, Walter Dukes and Elgin Baylor. They all got N6 Minimum Size requirement. Upon further review, the Dukes is definitely short but the Baylor and Arizin seem full size. They will likely head back to CA for another crack at it. In general, I got hit the hardest on the 61's. The Baylor N6 was a huge blow. I think the McCarthy and Meschery were fair at 7's. The Greer I honestly was disappointed with the 7. I thought it had a good chance at an 8. My guess is the soft corner got me. The color and centering on this card are supreme for this set. I would put this 7 against most 8's I have seen, especially on the centering which is brutal in this set.

Some HOF RCs from my favorite set. Understand the 7 on the Olajuwon because of the corners (great centering for a 7 though). Deserved the 8 on the Barkley. Feel the 9 on the Ewing is deserved but still feel lucky to get it.

We will speed through the rest. Got a bunch of 9's and 8.5's on these commons. Most of the 8.5's are on low pop commons. Wish the Lucas could have been a 9 as that card is one of the tougher commons in the set (9's for him go for regular common 10 money). Happy to have pulled a couple of 10's on this set. Never try to slip a surface issue past PSA, lol. The Wilkins and the Rice RC from earlier are reminders of this.

For our modern collectors! I couldn't be happier with the two Steph Curry autos. He is my son's favorite player and these are actually his cards. These are the first cards he has that are graded. He is 2 for 2 on 10's! The die cut card we pulled together out of a pack so that is probably my favorite card in our whole collection. He is six and I hope I haven't created a monster. He is going through all his other cards and asking if we can sub them, lol. He is very excited to have a card in a holder like all of mineimage The Anthony Davis Auto card was the only modern that didn't catch a 10, I went 6 for 7. Not sure what was wrong with it, and of course it is probably the biggest money card, go figure. I actually have the same card in a 10 and was hoping to get this in a 10 so I could keep my own submitted card and sell the extra 10. Will probably sell this one now.

Great post. You are very objective when it comes to your own cards. Where you were disappointed, I completely agree. That was a really nice submission overall and I am glad you got some of the grades you needed/really wanted.

Scott--Thanks, yes I have been fairly lucky in my subs that I generally go in with reasonable expectations. I usually think to myself, "what is a reasonable range of outcomes for this card". For instance the 86 Ewing, I thought anything from an 8 to a 9 would be reasonable and was pleasantly surprised with the 9. The 75 Lis was the same. Even the Jerry Rice and Gerald Wilkins cards that I got 6's on, I knew going in the range could be from a 6 if they knocked me down for the surface problems all the way to a 9 if the surface problems were overlooked. While I wish the cards got higher grades, I knew going in the 6's would be in play so I can't fault PSA for those. The Guerin 6.5 and the Greer 7 were at the very bottom of my expectations. I really thought the Greer deserved an 8 with the 7 being the floor. Like I said, I would put this Greer 7 against most 8's any day and the Guerin IA 6.5 against just about any 7 as well. The Greer will go to my registry set so it doesn't matter that much the grade as I am not worried about resale. The 6.5 on the Guerin IA is disappointing only that I wanted to replace the one in my 7 or better registry set with this centered copy.

Mike--Thanks for you kind words and of course your spearheading this sub in the first plus. It is bad for my pocketbook but I do love collecting an assortment of cards in the hobby. Keeps things interesting for me to have different collections to follow.

Piggs--The Lis is one of the cards that will find its way to BST and/or eBay in the next week or so. A lot of these cards will end up in my registry sets or personal player collections, but some of the cards are duplicates or players I don't necessarily collect, so those will be sold. I don't collect the 75 mini set, I just happened to open a pack a while back and in it were these two gradable cards.

Steve, overall I think the sub is super! What I really love is the variety. And I'm not really into modern basketball, but I think Davis is a great guy to invest in. Ditto Andrew Luck. Congrats man!
